Sikkim Judges Best State in Tourism

Gangtok March 31: Sikkim has been judged as the best State in the Tourism Related Programmes and Development of Infrastructure for the year 2009-10. State Tourism minister Bhim Dhungel, Secretary of Tourism, SBS Bhadauria and the Principal Resident Commissioner, New Delhi, Arvind Kumar called on the chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling at his official residence today morning and handed over the award which consisted of trophy and a certificate. This is recorded the 20th similar achievement for the State of Sikkim in the field of Tourism, which talks the rapid growth and strides which the State of Sikkim has made in the short period. Chamling while congratulating the Tourism minister and his department for the award said that it has been possible due to the collective efforts made by all in the State. The award was presented by the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Meira Kumar in the presence of Minister for Tourism, Government of India, Subodh Kant Sahai and Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra including other dignitaries at the National Tourism Awards function held on March 28 at New Delhi. The award was received by the Principal Resident Commissioner along with the officers of state Tourism department on behalf of the State Government.
